Ambos ocorrem comumente no mundo da língua inglesa, mas o termo indices prevalece em formas do inglês fora da América do Norte, enquanto a forma indexes é mais comum no inglês americano e canadense.
A construção indices é geralmente preferida em contextos de matemático, áreas financeiras e técnicas, enquanto indexes é mais comum em uso geral.
Nenhuma das formas está errada. Ambas tém sido utilizadas na língua inglesa por séculos (e mesmo que indexes seja hoje mais comum no Inglês Americano, já existia séculos antes da fundação dos Estados Unidos).
É verdade que indices é o plural do termo index em Latin, mas index é uma palavra em inglês; por isto devemos pluralizar o termo de acordo com as convenções da língua inglesa.
