Substantivos contáveis são aqueles que podem ter um plural (com numerais e quantificadores) e podem ter um artigo indefinido (
a ou
an, em inglês).
São coisas que você pode contar, como chair, nose, eggs, etc.
Para estes substantivos usamos fewer e many.
I have FIVE chairs. I have too MANY chairs. I need FEWER chairs.
Substantivos não-contáveis (Non-count nouns ou mass nouns) não podem ter plurais ou ser combinados com números ou quantificadores. Alguns exemplos são laughter, sand, e furniture.
There is too MUCH sand, por exemplo. I need LESS sand to make my castle.
Você pode contar PIECES of furniture, mas não pode ter A FURNITURE ou 2 FURNITURES por exemplo. Não pode ser contado.
I have too MUCH furniture. It does not fit in the new house. I need to take LESS furniture to the new house.
Medidas de tempo e dinheiro são uma excessão a esta regra.
“I have LESS than 10 Dollars. I takes LESS than two hours to get to São Paulo.”

Countable nouns are common ones that can take a plural (combine with numerals and quantifiers) and may also take an indefinite article (a or an). They are things you can count like chair, nose, eggs, etc. For these nouns we use fewer and many…
I have FIVE chairs. I have too MANY chairs. I need FEWER chairs.
Non-count nouns (or mass nouns) cannot take plural or combine themselves with number words or quantifiers. Some examples are laughter, sand, and furniture.
There is too MUCH sand, for example. I need LESS sand to make my castle.
You could count PIECES of furniture, but you cannot have A FURNITURE or 2 FURNITURES for example. It cannot be counted.
I have too MUCH furniture. It does not fit in the new house. I need to take LESS furniture to the new house.
Measurements of time and money ignore this rule.
“I have LESS than 10 Dollars. I takes LESS than two hours to get to São Paulo.”
