1. Pronouns should agree in number
– If the noun is singular, the pronoun should be as well.
If a member parks a car in the parking lot, he or she should have a sticker (not they).
Note: everybody, anybody, anyone, each, neither, nobody, someone, a person, etc, are singular and take singular pronouns.
2. They have to agree in person.
– When a person parks a car in the parking lot, he or she should have a sticker.
3. Pronouns should clearly refer themselves to a specific noun.
A bad example: Although the car hit the sign, it was not damaged. (Is “it” the car or the sign?)
