Quando estamos falando outro idioma, especialmente um que não tenha o mesmo estilo que o nosso, nós acabamos soando divertidos e às vezes soamos estranhos…
Já dei boas risadas ouvindo algumas coisas assim:
I have twenty ears. – A pessoa estava querendo dizer “I am twenty years old“; com certeza “he only has TWO ears”.
I lost the bus. – Será que a pessoa TEM um ônibus? Você pode perder (to lose) dinheiro, chaves, jóias, mas definitivamente vocẽ não perde o ônibus.
You MISS the bus.
Let’s go to the shopping. – OK, we go shopping (verb) at THE MALL.
My head hurts – Did someone hit you in the head? A dor de cabeça que tratamos com uma aspirina é chamada “headache“.
I look at the t.v. every night. – (A pessoa OLHA pra televisão toda noite)… Interessante, o que eu vou dizer? We watch television.
I am winning $ 1000.00 per week in America. – Did you win in the casino or the lotto? Quando você está trabalhando, you EARN money, you can WIN the Pan American games.
I am going to eat a lunch now. – Lunch = Almoço, então “Eu vou comer UM almoço”??? Estranho, não? Lanche = Sandwich. “I am going to eat a sandwich now“.
Já ouviu alguém dizendo coisas assim?

When speaking another language, especially one that does not have the same style as ours, we can, at often times make ourselves look funny and definitely sound strange…
I was able to have many good laughs hearing these kind of things:
I have twenty ears. – I suppose the person was saying he was twenty years old, surely he only has TWO ears.
I lost the bus. – Did the person HAVE a bus to begin with? You can lose money, keys, jewelry, but you definitely cannot lose the bus. You MISS the bus.
Let’s go to the shopping. – OK, we go shopping (verb) at THE MALL.
My head hurts – Did someone hit you in the head? The pain in the head we have that causes us to take an aspirin is called “headache”.
I look at the t.v. every night. – (A pessoa OLHA pra televisão toda noite)… Interesting, what can I say? We watch television.
I am winning $ 1000.00 per week in America. – Did you win in the casino or the lotto? You EARN money when you work, you can WIN the Pan American games.
I am going to eat a lunch now. – Lunch = Almoço, hence “Eu vou comer UM almoço”??? Strange, no? Lanche = Sandwich. “I am going to eat a sandwich now”.
Can you remember a time you heard someone saying one of these things?
