Local accents are part of local dialects.

English has unique accent features. Non-native speakers of English tend to carry over the intonation from their mother tongue.

Among native English speakers, many different accents exist and they can be easily identified by certain characteristics.

There can be a lot of misunderstanding between people from different regions, as the way
one word is pronounced in one are may be like a different word in another accent.
