Amicable significa algo com boa vontade, ou seja: characterized by goodwill. Este termo se aplica a relacionamentos ou interações entre pessoas.
Por exemplo, “two amiable people might share an amicable friendship” (algo como “duas pessoas amigáveis devem compartilhar uma amizade agradável”), ou note também a frase “two amiable people might end their relationship amicably”.
Tanto amiable como amicable derivam do termo em Latin amicabilis, que significa friendly em inglês. A palavra miable chegou à Língua Inglesa através do Francês no século 14 e originalmente trazia o sentido que atualmente está no termo amicable. O sentido moderno da palavra apareceu um pouco depois. Amicable entrou no Inglês no século 16, já com o sentido moderno que tem hoje.
